Before I paint myself, I photograph myself.

Here are the instant moments before the boy begins painting, before he is immersed in the pressures of being an artist, lonely moments of grounded sanctuary for him to embrace his many identities and the pleasures of not knowing.

Some of the photographs are used as studies of composition and light, then developed further when used as references for a painting. Whilst others are respectfully left to be as photographs as a celebration of the beauty of the image. Strong enough to Stand alone as a completed scene.
